It was very quiet...and she really didn't like quiet. Maxie Rollins was wandering around, doing nothing, seemingly, and she had come to the library. It wasn't the best place to go before school, mostly because all the cool people were in their dorms and the recroom. They'd be there until the bell. Maxie though, wasn't one of the 'cool people' and she really didn't care.
There was an eerie silence in the library, only because no one was in there. Maxie rarely traveled to the book keeping areas; she was more of a computer person. There was an echo of her steps as she traversed from the door to the computers, which were all lined up against the window. Outside, it was raining, a much needed rain. Luckily, Maxie didn't mind the droplets of water, even when they fell onto her head.
Most girls that she listened to were always freaking out when it came to moisture touching their precious hair. However, Maxie's was naturally straight and had natural volume, so she had nothing to worry about with frizz and curl. Not alot of girls had this luck, and that made Maxie feel more unique than she actually was. That was quite the stretch, if anyone thought about it.
Her heart was beating at a slow and steady pace; she was calm and sleepy by the rain and that was going to stay like that all day. If it was raining, like most people, she'd be tired. There was a click and sound of fans moving as the computer started up and Maxie shut her eyes a little, but was woken up by the beep of the computer screen coming to the log-in page. She did so and then got onto the internet. There was really nothing that she was intrested in searching for, but there was something that she could do to get the morning over with, right?
To tell anyone the truth, Maxie was just hoping to hurry and get to class.

Maxie only thought she was alone. A girl, her bright red, curly hair somehow contained in a thick headband and a hair tie sat silently in the corner. The book's cover was dusty, the title not even close to being legible, but the freshman girl was totally engrossed in it, hardly hearing the girl enter until she heard the whirr of the computer fan. She sucked in a breath and held it, wondering if she'd been discovered, letting it slowly out in a silent sigh of relief.
You may have called Sophie introverted and you would have been right. You would have called her anti-social, and you would have been right. You may have called her shy, and you couldn't have missed the mark by a more vast ammount. It wasn't that she was shy. Fearful, yes. But if you ever got her pissed enough, she was definately not scared to give you a piece of her mind. She could scream and yell and slap with the best of them if you got her mad enough. But it took some doing to get her there, and few had ever taken the time and the patience to get her mad enough to actually slap them. Most of the time it takes months of picking on her to get her mad enough to actually yell at you and slap you. She has a very long fuse, but once you get it burnt, you'll wish you hadn't, as a couple people had well found out. She could hold her own in a fight, didn't back down even when she took a hard one. No, she wasn't shy.
But you couldn't really blame her for being introverted and fearful of people. Not with her history. She was silent, often mistaken for a mute. She was far form it. She was simpy afraid of being stabbed in the back as she had been so many times before.
And so it was, if Maxie got curious enough to look, she would find Sophie, sitting curled up in a cushy library chair, reading a book who's cover could not be read.

Maxie, as she'd always done as the computer loaded pages, leaned back a little in her whirly chair, then began to spin a little, stopping long enough to make sure that no one was watching her, and she spun again with a quick laugh, that came out surprisingly louder than she'd hoped. Maxie stopped herself, staring at the computer screen a little and then shaking her head, obviously bored with looking at the Google home page that she still hadn't bothered to use yet. The spinning of the chair, however, had gotten her a bit hyper, and she wanted to walk around instead.
Maxie quickly logged off and shut down the computer, spinning again in the chair quickly, and then leaping off. Yes, she could be a bit childish, but she really didn't care; it was quite fun. She spun the chair a little and then hopped on, letting out another laugh, one louder than the last. Maxie clasped her hands over her mouth and giggled, muffling her laughter a little. There was nothing else to do but spin in this chair, but it was getting her dizzy, so she had to walk it off.
As she began to wander around the library, a bright colored chair caught her eye. In the one chair next to the bright one was a girl with red hair, who was highly noticeable. What book was she reading? Maxie couldn't tell. However, something about her made Maxie want to go over and talk. Her pants ruffled a little as she stepped, only because they were tight and she took small steps when she walked. Her shirt was quite long, and it was cut low, with a white cami under it. The navy blue of the shirt came down, ruffling at the bottom and resembled a short dress, that only covered half her butt, which was a little bubble inside her jeans.
"What book is that?" Maxie asked. She was feeling a little too overactive, but she tried to keep herself a little calm, trying not to scare the girl and make a new friend.

She glanced up when she was spoken to, and gazed at the girl a moment, taking in the shirt. Her own attire was very simple. Blue jeans, black and limegreen and teal DC's, and a black T-shirt with a white outline of Tinkerbell on it, reading " what's not to love?" in colorful, rainbow font.
Finally, still gazing up at the girl with flashing green eyes, she shrugged. It apparently had no title. Or, maybe it'd had one...At one point in time, long ago. But now the spine cover was wripped off, the cover that must have once held the title now too smudged and weirded up to be legible.
She didn't have to know what it was called, only that it was about horses. "It's about horses, though" she said finally, and sucked in a breath. She hadn't spoken in..in..years...And here she was...Speaking to a total stranger. She hadn't even spoken to her roomate, who probably deserved to hear her voice more than this girl did. But there she was..she had spoken and it was too late, she couldn't pull the words back into her mouth, now could she.
Her eyes dropped self conciously back to her book. Her voice sounded scratchy, like she hadn't used it in a long time. And she hadn't. No wonder...

Maxie nodded a little and then smiled. Her smile was warm and heart felt, and anyone could tell, just by looking at her, that she was a nice girl, hidden in a scene shell. Maxie was naturally preppy, though you couldn't tell now by looking at her. How many preppy people do you know what a nose ring, side swept hair, and who wrote about the dark and dismal things that lived in their mind?
Maxie sat in the chair directly across from Sophie. She had let her smile fade and she leaned back in the chair, relaxing. Her nails, as she observed them, were painted black, but fading, because she never really thought she had the time to keep up with them. Maxie lifted her other hand and with strangely long fingernails, began to peel off the nail polish, which was hard and like rubber sticking to her nails. It was weird, but extremely enjoyable.
She looked at Sophie when she finally spoke and her smile half slipped onto her face. "Well, horses are pretty cool. I like 'em. Do you?" What a stupid question. It was quite obvious that she liked horses; she was reading about them. Maybe it was a project, but no, it couldn't be. That would be a weird project. Let's all read books without titles about horses. How do you write a bibliography on a book with no title?
"I'm...um...Maxie Rollins. Who're you?" secretly, she was hiding her hyper-active nature, and she smiled a little, letting it fade and then she played with the ends of her shirt, loving the ruffles, and she laughed a little, lifting a hand to hush her mouth, by cupping it, and she pushed a strand of loose blonde hair from her own green eyes, which were naturally hazel, but changed colors.

The girl shrugged and nodded. Yes, I like them. Her eyes had been drawn back to the book, drawn in by whatever words were held there. She gazed at the girl with unblinking steady green eyes. She shrgged to herself. What could it hurt? "Sophie Robertson," she croaked, turning her head away and clearing her throat, which was complaining at the sudden activity. She glanced at the clock that hung on the wall and heaved a sigh.
Unfortunately, class would start soon. "I'm a freshman," she added as she rose, shoving the book back on the shelf, not exactly where she had found it but close enough. She nodded, starting to move toward the hallway, wishing class weren't about to start, but this was still better than what it could have been...
